Australia has always been dependent on foreign investment to build infrastructure, develop industries and provide jobs.

In the middle of a financial crisis and global economic challenges, it is vital Australia remains an attractive destination for foreign capital. But there is uncertainty about the regulatory system and whether it facilitates or blocks investment.

Australia's Open Investment Future, a major symposium to be held in Melbourne in December, will look at the Australian investment climate, motivations behind foreign investment, the players seeking to invest, their objectives and the barriers they face.

The symposium will bring together Australian and international experts to discuss the impacts and what Australia needs to do to attract the investment necessary to promote economic growth.
