The topic of this Melbourne Dialogue is Dr Abjorensen's forthcoming book on political leadership in Australia and the success of leaders in the Liberal Party. In it he traces the rise of liberalism and conservatism and their triumph in the battle of ideas.
He has been national editor of the Sydney Morning Herald, a senior writer with The Age and the Canberra Times. He wrote the biography of John Hewson, and the chapter on the nation's only free-trade prime minister George Reid in the centenary of Federation book, Makers of Miracles.
