In 1831 a twenty-five year-old French nobleman went to America to study prisons. The result was Democracy in America, which has come to be regarded as the essential statement of American political culture and its spirit of community and civil society.
Speakers
Scott Hargreaves is a Melbourne writer, whose published work includes studies on Max Webber and nineteenth-century liberalism.
