Organic without redemption

It's official-you aren't being harmed by supermarket food. In July the UK Food Standards Agency released a commissioned report that found there are no additional health benefits from organic foods.

The research found only a third of all studies completed in the last fifty years demonstrated any nutritional benefits from organics, but even these benefits were insignificant.

Unsurprisingly the latest report on the deficit of organic food has growers and their friends angry. The UK Soil Association has trashed the report and the Organic Federation of Australia has simply dismissed it.

For years green groups and activists have been proclaiming that campaigns for organic food, food miles and sustainable fish are necessary for us and the planet. But their claims rarely live up to the benefits of the latest fad diet in a women's magazine. Organic foods have now rightfully taken their place next to the all-cheese diet.
