Individuals should be free to truck, trade and barter. Over two hundred years ago, these insights founded on the bedrock of individual property rights and the 'liberty' of the individual from arbitrary actions of government were assessed as the causes of the wealth of nations. We have emerged from an era, which ebbed and flowed but reached a crescendo some three decades ago, during which the merits of these words were downgraded.
